More than $5,000 in cash prizes awarded!

The Big Event

The festivities will begin on Friday afternoon with a new offering for this year’s convention – Master Classes in Old Time Banjo and Fiddle.   At 4 pm Ron Mullennex will lead an Old Time Banjo Workshop and Mark Campbell will lead the Old Time Fiddle Workshop.  A joint banjo and fiddle workshop session will follow at 5 pm.  Then at 6 pm attendees will be treated to a Masters Duet Performance by Mark Campbell and Ron Mullnnex on the Daniel-Murray Homestead stage.  Youth performances by Dale Elswick’s Youth All Stars will kick off at 6:30, followed by an old-fashioned Dance On The Green at 7 pm.  Tower Street String Band will provide live old time music for square dancing with caller Joan Yates.  At 8 pm, the Tower Street String band will entertain as the sun sets, while impromptu sets of pickers gather in the park to jam and put the finishing touches on competition tunes.

On Saturday, musicians of all ages will compete throughout the day with Youth Competition beginning at 10 am.  Individual instrument categories and duets, including dobro, guitar, fiddle, and banjo, will begin at 11 am.  Smaller cash categories for duclimer, harmonica, autoharp, and bass will be included, and ribbon categories for folk song and traditional dance.  The induction of the 2017 honorees for Lifetime Achievement will take place at 6:30 Saturday evening and is always a highlight of the weekend.  A group jam of current and past honorees to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” will follow the presentation.  Band competition will begin and conclude on Saturday night and cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the competitors in all categories at the end of the evening.

A Gospel Sing and interdenominational church service will be held on Sunday morning at 10 am.  Campers and community attendees will gather in the Red Barn to close the weekend with bluegrass and old time gospel music.

**All competitions and performances will be conducted outside on the front porch of the Daniel-Murray Homestead Cabin**
