Bring the family to Tazewell for a weekend of traditional mountain music, old-fashioned cake and pie walks, flat foot dancing, parking lot jamming, talented instrument and band competitions, cash prizes, camping and fellowship in the cool mountain air.
More than $5,000 in cash prizes awarded!

The Big Event

The festivities will begin on Friday evening at 6 pm with a Hot Dog Supper in the Red Barn and youth performances by Dale Elswick’s Youth All Stars on the Daniel-Murray Homestead stage, followed by an old-fashioned Dance On The Green at 7 pm.  Tower Street String Band along with Charlotte and Eric Whitesell will provide live old time music for square dancing with caller Joan Yates, waltzes and cake & pie walks with Garland Roberts.  At 8:30 pm, the Tower Street String band will entertain as the sun sets, while impromptu sets of pickers gather in the park to jam and put the finishing touches on competition tunes.

On Saturday, musicians of all ages will compete throughout the day with Youth Competition beginning at 10 am.  Individual instrument categories and duets, including dobro, guitar, fiddle, and banjo, will begin at 11 am.  Smaller cash categories for duclimer, harmonica, autoharp, and bass will be included, and ribbon categories for folk song and traditional dance.  Dr. Jessica Turner, director of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, will discuss The Bristol Sessions in a presentation at 6 pm.  The induction of the 2016 honorees for Lifetime Achievement and a presentation of handmade wooden fiddle plaques will also take place Saturday evening and is always a highlight of the weekend.  A group jam of current and past honorees to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” will follow the presentation.  Band competition will begin and conclude on Saturday night and cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the competitors in all categories at the end of the evening.

A Gospel Sing and interdenominational church service will be held on Sunday morning at 10 am, led by Dale Elswick & Friends.  Campers and community attendees will gather in the Red Barn to close the weekend with bluegrass and old time gospel music.

**All competitions and performances will be conducted outside on the front porch of the Daniel-Murray Homestead Cabin**
